i know i said i’d put this up sunday but i got busy. this is the result of my first creative photography group project; as you can see our theme was “red square.” i’d seen a lot of close up shots of candy on faces in flickr explore a lot and i wanted to try my hand at it. turns out it’s pretty hard. i made myself a beauty dish out of a 18″ pot, some white spray paint, and some other items i found at the hardware store. it actually worked really well but the light was a little harder to control than i initially thought. all in all i’m pretty happy with the results. i do wish i could have controlled the light a bit more around the edges but there’s always a next time.
incidentally, Phil, if you swing by here, it’s impossible to find a good confectioner in the market. at least google maps couldn’t find one and an hour of wandering around yielded up nothing more than Rocky Mountain Chocolate.

you should try some more shots of different things with the beauty dish. what else can you do with it?
i can use it for pretty much anything that needs to be bathed in a soft light. ruben is finishing up painting some more warhammer figures so i’ll probably use it for that. if i wanted a more even light i could stretch some diffuse white cloth over the opening for even more even light.
