i went out to buy a DSLR today and ended up with more than i bargained for. as i’ve mentioned before i wanted to join the digital revolution because developing film is expensive. i’ve been trying to decide for a while between the nikon d40 and the nikon d80. i’d been leaning towards the d80 for two reasons; first, i dislike the idea of the AF motor being in the lens(d40), second, i felt like more AF points would offer more flexibility. there was also the possibility that my old 50mm lens would work with it. sadly it does not. but no worries, i got a nikon d200 instead. i bet you’re asking how one goes from a camera that’s a shade over a grand for a kit to one that’s $1300 just for the body. well, you buy used. i picked up a d200 body for under a grand and i was able to use my 50mm lens. it’s not the greatest lens, but being able to use it means i got to spend more money on a good body. even though it’s just a little over two years old it’s still arguably one of the best entry/amateur DSLRs out there. so here it is, my fancy new shooter.
here are a few samples of what i’ve done with it today. if the rain lets up at all i may go out tomorrow and see what i can see.

Jared:
Congratulations! Good purchase. My favorite shot is the one looking to the right over the vegetable stand. Probably just because I’m partial to that sort of shot.
Try one like this with as small an aperture as you can get and still have a decent shutter speed. Maybe during bright lighting conditions. Small aperture (high f-stop) will widen the depth of field a bit and more vegetables will be reasonably in focus. Still, I love the shot!
