[10:58] b: I hate bad code
[10:58] me: heh
[11:01] b: I’m extending our network registration system to allow for guest registrations. This system was written entirely in perl, by at least 12 different students over the course of 9 years. It has only been in the last 4 years that we’ve really been careful about who we let write code for this app. The end result is that the code is a horrible mess of inconsistant styles, uncommented variables with names like “stuff”, and generally just bad design.
[11:01] me: haha
[11:28] b: THIS IS THE WORST CODE EVER!
[11:28] me: i can guarantee you it’s not
[11:29] b: Oh man, I’m ready to take the pepsi challange on this shit.
B basically sums up why I didn’t stay a Computer Science major at UPS. That, and Jerry Kerrick. Were you lucky enough to be in one of his classes before he retired? One was enough for me, but I’ll never forget him!
“Let’s get out of this fire-trap!”
“Any Mac fans?” *silence*
“Well, I was sipping my mocha-latte, down at Diversions, and…” He was the only person I ever heard call the Cafe’ ‘Diversions,’ I mean, its name technically was “Diversions Cafe”–but people either say the full name, or just “Cafe.”
