i’m not painting anything right now. i decided it was too much work. and the paint on it now isn’t chipping off or anything, so i’ll just leave it.
so i finally got the new drivetrain installed on my bike. man it’s great. also, it takes about 15 minutes of looking like a complete dumbass to understand clipless pedals. i sat on my bike with my brakes on trying to clip in one foot, then rolling blindly looking down at my other foot trying to get it clipped in. that’s the easy part. stopping now take some thought and preparation. you have to remember that you can’t just lift your foot off the pedal anymore; you are attached to your bike. you have to remember to twist your foot outward so you disengage the cleat. otherwise you fall over. no i didn’t fall over; i almost did.
riding like that is a whole new experience. it makes you very aware of how inefficient regular pedals with sneakers is. it’s cheesy but you really do feel like you’re one with your bike. it really makes me want to try fixed gear, and i think i will after a few weeks with the clips. then the whole stopping problem will be non-existent until i get to where i’m going. i think this should illustrate why.
