so i’ve decided to paint my bike. since it’s a 20+ year old beater i’m just going to get some auto touch-up paint and do a rattle-can job. my cousin sent me a shimano ultegra crank with a red anodized chainring; so i think i’m going to paint it mostly white and do red on the lugs. i also found some krylon prismatic clearcoat that i think i’m going to do a coat or two of under the final clear coat. i figure between paint stripper, color, and the prismatic it’ll cost me about 40 bucks. i figure this will take me 1-2 weeks. i’ll probably be able to do one coat per night and allow it to dry overnight. one coat of primer, two to three coats of color, then two to four coats of clear depending on if i do the prismatic layer. then once that’s done, my cousin said he could get me a red fork to match the crank. then i’ll have spent way too much money and time to fix up a bike that’s older than i am and probably not worth it. but that’s ok because it’s my bike, and i like projects.
