we looked at a place on capitol hill yesterday. it has a lot going for it, but there are a few things i don’t like about it.

pros

1. it’s not 3 feet underground. yeah it’s in a hill, but no wall of the building has dirt on the other side of it. brick and concrete from ground to rooftop.
2. gas! OMG gas range and forced air gas heating.
3. the space is laid out better. bedroom is a little narrower than we’re used to but oh well.

cons

1. parking sucks. it’s capitol hill though.
2. the bathroom doesn’t have ventilation. but it does have a dumwaiter and he said some units have fans installed in that space. so there’s a possibility that could be fixed.
3. it’s not much nicer than our place. the walls are thicker, but it’s from around the same era, if not older. there are only two electrical outlets in the main room, which may cause problems. i have two “arrays” that require their own plugs, or will be severely damaged by overloading them: the entertainment system and my aquarium. i feel like we’ll have a lot of extension cords.

we’re going to look at a place downtown today across from nordstrom. this could pose the same parking problem, and also a convenience issue. i’m not familiar with what’s available in that neighborhood so trips to the market may be an adventure. which may not be a bad thing because it will encourage us to fend for ourselves instead of be lazy and get a ready made dinner at the metro market. the parking issue may prevent people from visiting us. but bus access is much better in that area. it also looks more modern than the place we saw yesterday, so i’m thinking electrical won’t be an issue. i guess we’ll just have to see.
