post modernist writing pisses me off quite a bit in its smugness and seemingly blas+¬-ness with damned near everything. but there is a certain understanding and appreciation hidden is the post-modernist observation of every day things. don’t know what i mean? read White Noise by Don DeLillo. it took me a bit to get into it because i have a certain aforementioned annoyance with post-modernist literature; but once i got into the rhythm of DeLillo’s writing and started noticing the way he’s phrasing and describing things, i kinda got sucked in.

do you know how hard it is to find a stainless steel tea kettle for less than 50 bucks? pretty hard. though i did find a decent one on amazon for $13 to go with the teapot i got for me mum. don’t worry, she doesn’t know about this blog, so the surprise isn’t ruined. that teapot is far too cool for my mom, it being all modern and such. but i think my mom needs a little cool in her life. i almost bought one for myself but i’m broke, and who wants to have the same teapot as their mom?

so i’m pretty much done with my christmas shopping. i set foot in a single retail store to get gifts for people and i’ve kept the total well under $200. i think i have a couple other items to pick up, but i should still keep it under that margin. it’s kinda funny. now that i CAN afford to get people nice gifts, i still manage to get them neat things and not spend a whole bunch.

funny how that works.
