swiped this off ruben’s blog but i felt it was worth replicating. “Can I Get an Amen?” (top level, you have to navigate the piece itself) is a documentary of sorts on the origin of the breakbeat with a subtle message on how flexible copyright law encourages the recycling of past culture to move our own forward. at least that’s what i got out of it. even if that’s not the case, it’s really fascinating to learn that the basis of most hip-hop and electronic music (particularly drum and bass) originated from a jazz trio from the 60’s.
