so i’ve been reading harry potter a lot. since tuesday i’ve read the first 3 books, and am now halfway through the fourth. this week has been another rollercoaster ride of job hunting. on wednesday i had a phone interview with AtlasDMT, they make internet marketing tools. it was a technical screening, so the guy asked me a bunch of stuff about programming and such. i bombed it. when i say i bombed it, i mean i’m suprised the guy wasn’t laughing at me and questioning whether i was lying about having a degree in computer science. but the next day, the staffing agency handling the hiring called me and said that they wanted me to come in next tuesday for a second interview. its four hours long and involves some more hands on testing. wonderful. so now they can see in person how much of a blundering idiot i am. i suppose on an up note i have an interview with Borders on 38th for a possible supervisor position in the music department. thats on saturday. the lady i talked to sounded like she was looking forward to talking to me. that may be because she’s just used to dealing with people all the time and has a way to make them feel good, or she has hopes that i’m fit for the job. i can’t decide which would be worse, being offered neither job, or both. its obvious why neither is bad, because i still have bills to pay, job or no. but getting offered both presents me with a terrible conundrum. i have to make the choice between doing two things i love, but one is better for me in the long run than the other. i’m going to guess that the Borders job will pay more than $11.00/hr, which is what is offered for the programming job at Atlas. However, it gives me no real experience for a career that i really want to pursue. on the other hand, Borders is in Tacoma, so on top of being paid more, its closer and i don’t have to pay for parking, which is another $200+ a month in my pocket. the more i think about it, the more i know i’ll choose Atlas if both are offered. just because thats more practical experience for me, and even if they don’t hire me on at the end of the contract, i’ll have better experience under my belt to get another programming job than i would had i chosen Borders instead. i know this sounds like bitching about being handed two good things, but i’m really torn between experience and less money, and less stress and more money. but i suppose its a moot point until both are offered. odds are stacked against me that i’ll only get offered one if at all, but one can hope i suppose.
